Swiss CLA: Further Bloodletting in Basle

Dear Colleagues

Parallel to the pressure on Lufthansa employees Swiss continues its economy drive with undeminished austerity inspite of the current CLA negotiations.

Bloodletting in Basle

Implementing the Score project Swiss announces further job cuts in Basle. 12 jobs out of 40 staff in “Passenger Revenue Accounting” will be cut due to automation before the end of the year. While automation in „Sales & Refund“ is expected for Nov. 30, 2014, downsizing measures for “Interline & Master Data“ are said to be implemented by February 28, 2015.

Downsizing of the 10.9 full-time employees (FTE) is expected to be cushioned by early retirements and postponed notices. 7 persons are expected to be given notice by Swiss’ applying “Sozialplan plus”.

SEV-GATA considers the permanent pressure on the employees together with continued job cuts a problem. We will determine an adequate way of proceeding with each of the members concerned and take care of their individual interests. In past layoffs connected with the concentration of Share Services we could see that those concerned were not willing to offer resistance to the problematic measures.

As far as the unions are concerned relocations to low-wage countries and redundancies due to automation must be prevented. Measures to increase productivity must be discussed with the social partners involving those concerned. This is to make sure that any downsizing plans are absolutely imperative to be implemented without redundancies.

SEV-GATA will continue representing the interests of its members courageously. Now the low level of staff in the individual departments reflects the present measures of Swiss. Being a grass-roots movement SEV-GATA is fighting together with its members.

A membership in SEV-GATA is worthwhile – before facing dramatic cuts in your personal employment conditions. Your dedicated fight for fair working conditions pays!

Kind regards

SEV-GATA, your union of the aviation industry
