Coronavirus: Exceptional Situation III

Dear Colleagues

Our country is still in a state of emergency. Nobody knows when the crisis is going to end. Right now, the most important thing is to protect people from serious illness and its consequences. At the same time, it is crucial to maintain their buying power. This is the only way to prevent a complete economic breakdown and to ensure that all aspects of life – be they social or economic – can go back to normal as soon as possible.

The situation in the aviation industry remains problematic. We share the worldwide demands of our international umbrella organisations ITF (www.itfglobal.org) and ETF (www.etf-europe.org):

  1. Health protection
  2. Preservation of workplaces
  3. Wage protection
  4. Protection of infrastructure

Together with other Swiss unions, we have submitted a letter to the Federal Council on 20 March 2020, demanding the following:

We ask you for temporary financial support of the aviation industry to ensure its survival of the crisis. After the storm, the industry must be able to reconnect Switzerland to the world and contribute to the country’s economic success again.

The government’s aid package is currently being refined. We ask the public authorities (federal and/or cantonal government) to add emergency supplementary funds to the aid package in order to preserve the system. The goal is to reach 100% pay in case of short-time work, unemployment, or loss of salary caused by the corona crisis (this could be limited to wages up to CHF 7’000 per month, for example).

Many companies in the aviation industry strive to answer employees’ questions with offensive communication strategies.

In this time of crisis, we are here to defend the interests of our members.

Many questions concerning labour legislation can be found online at https://sev-online.ch/de/aktuell/kontakt.sev/2020/sev-info-zum-coronavirus-deine-rechte-unsere-forderungen/ (in German/French/Italian). We are also happy to provide personal information.
