The pay talks with Swiss have been completed successfully, but those with Swissport are yet to be held. Another focal point is financial security in the “third” stage of life.

Pension reform urgently needs solution

On 3 November 2017, the delegates of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB) – our umbrella organisation – have decided on the goals of the outstanding pension reform:

  • AHV pensions need to be increased in order to compensate for the rising costs of health and health insurance.
  • The AHV needs additional funds, mainly in the form of increased wage contributions. The one percentage point of VAT which the AHV receives, must finally be accredited to the AHV in full.
  • In the second pillar, banks and insurers may not make profits at the expense of those insured anymore. The SGB will launch a campaign on this topic.
  • Protection against dismissal of long-term, elderly employees needs improving. People who lose their job at the age of 58 or later shall be allowed to remain in their old pension fund. Furthermore, industry-wide solutions are needed concerning early retirement options.
  • The retirement age of women shall remain at 64 years.

Elections for staff representatives in Foundation’s Management Council (Swiss Pension Fund)

The staff representatives’ term of office in the Foundation’s Management Council of the pension fund for Swiss ground staff will be terminated by the end of the year. All current representatives are running again for the next term of office. If no further candidacies are submitted, there will be no election and the current candidates will be elected by means of a tacit election.

At the moment, not a single representative in the Foundation’s Management Council is subject to the CTA, which is a severe problem! It is crucial for us to have a representative who is one of us; who will fight for the interests of those employed under the conditions of the CTA. We will support our elected SEV-GATA members in order to help enable them to fulfil this interesting role. Swiss has already invited eligible people to submit their candidacy. Attention: The submission deadline for candidacies ends on 11 November 2017. Therefore, we advise interested members of SEV-GATA to apply directly and inform us at the same time so that we can support them during the election process.

Cash flow in the aviation industry

We have not received any official information from Swissport about their result from the 3rd quarter. However, Swiss has achieved a record result of 460 million francs EBIT, with profits amounting to 3,71 million francs. Thanks to the 2018 wage- and CTA-measures, our members will also benefit from the company’s success.

Our success is always dependent on the level of union membership in “our” companies. Members of the union will draw short-term, individual benefits from our wide range of services, but a membership will eventually result in better conditions regarding employment, wages, and pensions. Thus, our special promotion for winning new members is running until the end of the year and we are happy to invest in members who win other members for us (comp. Member Mail 10 / 2017).
