Dear colleagues
While in the neighboring aviation industry in the north affiliated trade unions of the Lufthansa Group are going on strike, we have been trying to find an agreement for the 2017 wage adjustments at the negotiation table – with success.
Swiss Ground Staff – 2017 Pay Rise
A few weeks ago staff associations managed to submit a pay agreement together with trade unions this year again. After tough negotiation an acceptable result could be achieved. Compared to other industrial sectors the result - adjusting wages generally «without statistical price inflation», raising salary bands and adding a social component on top - is quite presentable.
The result of the 2017 pay agreement per 1 January in detail:
- General increase of base salaries by 0.8%, min. CHF 50 / month at a 100% quota
- Adjustment of the salary bands by 2.3 %
This year we managed to achieve a result without the members taking strike action. Whether this will be possible in the years to come remains to be seen? Swiss employees are still not prepared to fight for their own rights collectively with the union if necessary – which has no tradition. The future will show what is necessary and to what extent our members would be prepared to become involved. The deciding factor for being successful is always the degree of organization, which means how many workers are in the union.
Calendar Campaign
The distribution of our calendars always meets with great interest. In the past few days our calendars have been gratefully accepted, and the campaign provided opportunities for good conversations. What a pity that no one (!) of the membership volunteered for assistance and nobody answered to our last mail’s call.
New Shop Steward in the Warehouse
The SEV-GATA committee is pleased to have Thomas Krause, Tel. 079 843 46 25 / 044 564 29 44 as a new delegate at Swiss. Thomas has been working as a technical store man in the warehouse of Swiss Zurich since September 2012. He will be available for all colleagues in his department, inform them on all union activities and tell us where the problems lie. SEV-GATA, your local union.
Membership – Strengthen the Movement
Having the pay rise for next year in the bag you still haven’t joined SEV-GATA? The membership will only cost you a small part of this increase. Now it’s time to change from opportunist to collective solidarity, so we can fight even better for your interests in the future. Each new member will take advantage of a free membership until the end of this year. As before those who win a new member for the union will get a present of CHF 50 and those recruiting 2, 4, 8 and 12 new members are entitled to a variety of premium gifts. Solidarity is also needed in the advent season and pays off all year round – also quite personally!
