Shift Models in Technics – Maintaining Work-Life Balance Is Crucial!

Dear Colleagues

The decision by SECO to no longer approve the long-standing 5:5 operating system as of January 1, 2026, has caused a great deal of uncertainty. This has led to petitions being initiated by those affected. We have also submitted these to SECO, and are now planning a meeting.
Swiss is also currently working on this issue. In mid-March, a kick-off meeting will take place regarding shift systems. This will not only address the night shift but also examine the entire shift planning process for maintenance. SEV-GATA will be present at this meeting with representatives from Geneva, as well as from Line and Hangar Maintenance in Zurich. Union Secretary Regula Pauli, who will continue to oversee this matter, and I will also participate.
The meeting is defined as a kick-off. This means that we will participate, listen to possible options and solutions, ask questions, and present our arguments and concerns.
SEV-GATA is a fully democratic union. We consult our members to act and make decisions on their behalf. Accordingly, we can assure you that we will not make any decisions without first consulting our members.

We will, of course, keep you informed after the meeting.

If you have any questions in advance, please feel free to contact us—ideally by email to
or directly to me.
