Dear Colleagues

The current situation of the aviation industry is still threatening and countless airplanes remain on the ground worldwide – with dramatic consequences for the jobs at the airlines, suppliers, and service providers.

Swissport
The company is still looking for capital. At the same time, negotiations to reduce costs are underway. Location-specific emails are to follow, which contain detailed information on the current state of negotiations.

The situation is extremely tense. We do everything we can to ensure that jobs are preserved and the quality of working conditions is guaranteed. We would like to thank everyone involved.

Swiss
The situation at Swiss still seems much more robust than that of other airlines. Securing liquidity with governmental support is a crucial aspect, and Swiss also promises to introduce cost-cutting programs. Negotiations will begin in September. We will invovle our members in this process. Ensuring job security and high-quality working conditions is of the utmost importance to us. Autumn promises a difficult time for us.

Planning shift work in maintenance gave rise to some problems. Swiss did not comply with the condition that two shift periods must be planned in advance and failed to communicate appropriately. Swiss has apologized for this mess. Due to the short-term nature of flight schedules, the agreed advance notice seems hardly feasible. Negotiations will take place in the coming weeks to find an acceptable solution.

Anniversary GM 2020
This year, SEV-GATA celebrates its 20th anniversary. Naturally, we are going to celebrate. SEV-GATA gives hope to all employees in the aviation industry, especially in times of crisis. As you already know, our General Meeting had to be postponed due to the pandemic. The GM will now take place on Friday, 23 October 2020 , at the new Lindt Home of Chocolate in Kilchberg ZH. In addition to the ordinary general meeting, we will have the opportunity to visit the new chocolate museum with a guided tour and to discuss the current situation. To set the scene, our members have already received a sweet surprise in the mail. An invitation with further information will follow next month.

Despite short-time work and insecurities, I hope your summer days also contain moments of relaxation and confidence.

Kind regards,

Philipp Hadorn, President
