Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Dear colleagues

The end of the year is the time to cease activities, even if it is just for a few days. It is also the time to take a look back and draw conclusions before setting new priorities.

Extension of SEV-GATA

By extending SEV-GATA with the integration of all former members of Push, we have become social partners in five more Collective Labour Agreements. The SEV team responsible for the aviation industry has been extended in order to tackle these additional tasks.

Save the date: Our 2018 Ordinary General Meeting (GM) will take place on Thursday, 17th May, around 5 pm. We will provide new information and the opportunity for friendly conversations. Further information is to follow.

ISS: CLA

The CLA with ISS Aviation in Geneva has been updated. The new CLA will take effect on 1st January 2018.

The result turned out to be presentable despite some severe turbulences during the last few months. An overview of the most important changes:

  • Withdrawal of Annexe 2A
  • New wage guarantees in the CLA
  • A new wage step worth CHF 120.- has been added to the three existing capacities
  • Integration of the driver’s bonus into the CLA
  • Refunding of plane tickets for all employees who have been employed before 31st December 2017 (according to employees’ vote)
  • Monthly planning with a deviation of more than +/- 10 hours only possible with the employee’s consent
  • Social security benefits formerly regulated by Annexe 2A will not be mentioned in the new CLA, however, they will be a fixed component of the individual work contract
  • The crew around Henri-Pierre Mullner and Tony Mainolfi have thus managed to stabilize working conditions for employees of ISS Aviation in Geneva.

Swiss: CLA

The last remaining adjustments to the time-consuming new CLA have finally been completed and it will thus take effect on 1st January 2018. The process concerning the revision of the wage system has been defined in an agreement. The results of the wage negotiations (see Member Mail 10/2017) and the now completed CLA (details see Member Mail 7/2017) negotiations allow for Swiss employees to also profit from the company’s success. However, deep in the minds of Swiss top managers there is still a backward, patriarchal kind of entrepreneurship which stems from the industrial revolution: Once again, instead of contributing to improved results in wage negotiations, they choose the approach of an additional Christmas reward, which infringes the CLA. The decision to grant employees more money is, of course, justified, but it is disdainful to do it in a way that looks like a “Christmas present” paid out of their own pocket when it is in fact only a very small proportion of the profit which finds its way back to those who have contributed to the success of the company with their hard work. We hope that Swiss will soon – finally – arrive in the 21st century.

Swissport/SBS/Priora: Wage negotiations

Last year, the Swissport management in Geneva has rewarded the employees’ performance at least slightly and admitted the fact that the cost of living has been on the rise. Nevertheless, the management in Zurich (Swissport ZRH and SBS) still keeps its ears shut. In Zurich, the coming year will be focused on CLA negotiations. With a wage round amounting to zero, the chance to form a basis of appreciation and respect for the challenging CLA negotiations has been missed. Now appreciation for and fair treatment of the employees must be proved by means of the CLA 2019 (Swissport Zurich and SBS).

The negotiations with Priora FM Geneva have led to a 0.8% increase in the total wage bill. Each employee will get 0.3% and 0.5% will be distributed based on performance.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

An eventful year is coming to an end. It is thanks to many new colleagues having joined us, the tireless word of mouth efforts of our faithful members, the enthusiastic SEV-GATA managing committee and SEV team that we have been able to reach some cornerstones for the workers in aviation in 2017. I would like to thank each and every one of you. Only with your help and motivation can we keep on fighting for the rights of workers and improve working conditions in 2018.

I wish you and your family a blessed Christmas and a happy new year!

Best wishes,

Philipp Hadorn, President
